WATCH SPACEX LAUNCH A SOLAR SAIL THE SIZE OF A BOXING RING
From Wired Magazine, 6/24/19
Later today SpaceX is expected to launch its massive Falcon Heavy rocket on its third and most complicated mission from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Previous Falcon Heavy launches each carried a single large payload—a Tesla roadster and an Arab telecommunication satellite—but this launch will carry two dozen satellites into Earth orbit. The entire mission will last over six hours due to the fact that the rocket’s upper stage must deliver its payloads to three different orbits. The four-hour launch window will open at 11:30 pm ET, and you can watch starting about 20 minutes before liftoff at the livestream below.
JOURNALISM AND LIBRARIES EXIST TO SUPPORT STRONG, WELL-INFORMED COMMUNITIES
Nieman Reports, 6/24/19
In a small New Hampshire town about 45 minutes from the state’s southern border with Massachusetts, the local newspaper is largely a one-man show. Michael Sullivan is de facto publisher and editor in chief as well as reporter, layout designer, crosswords creator, printer, and deliveryman. (The one thing he doesn’t do is photography.) But Sullivan is quick to tell anyone who asks: he’s no journalist. Rather, he’s a librarian—just one who happens to run the only publication dedicated to covering his town and its 8,966 residents.
